Prompt: “Impermanence”

Hannes Vaan

“(Im)permanence” / Digital art / Finland / 03-03-26

“The full moon looked like an egg in the sky tonight.

Why do some languages convey unchanged info over thousands of years while others continuously morph? The English word "egg" looks nothing like its reconstructed Proto-Indo-European ancestor "*h₂ōwyóm" (you'd need a degree to even say/hurl that) whereas the Finnish/Estonian/Karelian word "muna" has remained unchanged from Proto-Uralic "*muna". Both proto-languages were spoken 5000+ years ago.

Please remember that CDs retain info for only about 10–100 years.”
