Prompt: “Ask your body”
Nora Wormwood
ASK YOUR BODY/ Photo/Manipulated clay / Maine, USA / 03-09-26
“I have asked so much of my body, as we all do. Most notably, I've asked it to carry and birth three babies (no easy feat). I weighed out, in red clay, the birth weights of my daughters. 8lb8oz, 8lb13oz, 9lb11.5oz. As I measured out the clay, the first large hunk I cut I figured would be around 5lb. It was 3lb. I was astounded at how heavy these babies really were, how I can fool myself into thinking it wasn't much to carry. I ask so much of my body. I take so much of what it can do for granted, but never birth. Birth pushed me to my limit and made me feel more alive than I ever have. It was very clear what was being asked of my body in those moments, what I was asking of my body.”
