I made this using Scratch Board, by carving away an image, which as a physical act felt like exploring something hidden, something beneath the surface. And while I was carving I was thinking of human energy bodies, and the auric field. Light and energy that is all around us and that emanates from our bodies that the eye cannot see. And finally I was also thinking about mycelium, which is a massive fungal network that grows underneath the ground and functions like the internet, sending messages throughout the earth. It looks like thin white thread spreading everywhere in all directions, which I was definitely inspired by visually ✨

Archived family photos that I found when moving out of my mother’s house.

No one in my family has ever shared photos with me and have always came across them on my own having to puzzle memories I never had together.

KIIRA:

My exploration of the hidden world was of my ~subconscious~ 👀. I wanted to just create shapes and work intuitively. I thought about Abstract expressionism and imagined what music artists listened to at the time to guide their movements. I wonder what Kandinsky would have created if he would have been hungover on a sofa with Ginny and Georgia on in the background.

MEL:

Reading the prompt reminded me of a random book cover I saw as a kid. It was some sort of aquatic sci-fi novel that I found in one of the mysterious long aisles in Metso Library that weren’t meant for me. This is what seeing that cover in the forbidden aisle felt like.
